Voot Select’s latest release Illegal is a courtroom drama, that explores the roles of media and politics in corruption crime and running the nation. It is written by Reshu Nath, directed by Sahir Raza, and produced by Sameer Khan. Illegal got released on 12th May for the premium subscribers.
It’s a courtroom drama, focusing on political and media roles in corruption crime and running the country, the series is an intense thriller with a great cast. the drama series showcases An idealistic lawyer who is trapped in the murky world of criminal law. Two cases (one about the death penalty for women in India, the other about sexual harassment in the workplace) show how out of order the justice system can be.
The series is about court drama which would have easily completed in 8 episodes but it has been stretched up to 10 episodes unnecessarily, Which leads you to the boredom Still there are a few aspects in the script that helped the series rise above the ordinary but The consistent choppy editing of Illegal can leave the audience a little confused at times, taut editing would have helped “ILLEGAL “from becoming a bit of a drag. While the multiple climax scenes did irk me a tad.
This latest Voot Select offering heavily led down by its script and editing which accounts for some major flaws in Illegal. But The show’s biggest win probably is that it has its heart in the right place, though the narrative is occasionally manipulative.

Voot Select Illegal review
Performances-In the acting department, Akshay Oberoi is pitch-perfect as he portrays his angst with subtlety. If Piyush Mishra brings the necessary gravitas to top lawyer Janardan Jaitley in his own acting style, Kubbra Sait as Mehr Salam offers a heartbreaking performance, While Neha seems to be trying hard, she is unable to do justice to the role she plays. In many scenes, she goes overboard.
Direction -Illegal has a captivating premise, but what goes against the show’s crude direction and writing. Director Sahir Raza fails to impress with his weak helm power. It appears as if the show is made in a hurry as no attention has been given to details.
VERDICT -SO – SO
