Cricket Australia (CA) looks to be in dire circumstances to host the T20 World Cup 2020. CA chairman Earl Eddings said during a conversation with reporters on Tuesday that it would be a difficult task to organize the tournament.
He said that all options are being explored to organize the tournament, but due to travel restrictions, it is not possible to host the tournament.
It will be difficult to bring 16 teams to Australia
Eddings said that his meetings with the ICC are being held continuously and at the present time it is like a feast going back and forth.
He added, “Even if it is formally canceled or postponed for this year, bringing 16 teams to Australia under the current circumstances, where most of the countries are battling Corona, will be a tough thing.”
Host the tournament in 2021
Eddings wrote a letter to the ICC last month, expressing his desire to organize the T20 World Cup next year. Actually it was being said that if the 2020 T20 World Cup is postponed, then Australia will get a chance to host the T20 World Cup in 2022.
Eddings said that if there was such a long gap, he would suffer a lot from investors. He also gave an example of the success of the Women’s T20 World Cup.
The decision regarding the T20 World Cup
ICC is delaying decisions regarding the T20 World Cup 2020. The decision was to be taken first on 28 May 2020 which was further extended to 10 June 2020 and then no decision could be taken in the meeting on Wednesday.
It was being said that the decision could not be taken due to the delay in the meeting and now the future of the T20 World Cup 2020 is likely to be clear next month.
T20 World Cup Final Decision
Only last month, ANI quoted sources as saying that the T20 World Cup could be postponed till 2022. It was said that the decision to postpone the May 28 board meeting could be made official.
However, since then the ICC has held its meeting twice and no decision has been made. It was also said that the decision has been taken, but the official will be later.
