American company Moderna may release interim results of a final phase trial of its potential coronavirus vaccine next week. With this, it will become only the second company to release the results of the final phase of the trial, and before that the Pfizer company of America has released the preliminary results of its vaccine trial.
Experts have hoped that Moderna’s vaccine, like Pfizer’s vaccine, will prove effective in preventing infection.
Interim results will be released after 53 people involved in the trial are infected
According to a Bloomberg report, Moderna’s first interim review trial is likely to occur after at least 53 of those infected. Which of these infected vaccines was given and which not, will be analyzed and based on how effective the vaccine is, it will be decided.
Talking about Pfizer, the interim results of her vaccine were released after 94 people involved in the trial were infected.
Moderna and Pfizer trial started simultaneously
The third phase trial of Modrna’s coronavirus vaccine based on the mRNA technique began with Pfizer in July, but results are delayed slightly.
One of the main reasons for this is the interval between doses of both vaccines. While two doses of Pfizer’s vaccine are given at intervals of three weeks, Moderna’s vaccine must have four weeks between the two doses.
Experts hope- Moderna vaccine will prove effective
Experts are hoping for Moderna’s vaccine to be highly effective as Pfizer’s vaccine based on similar technology has proven to be 90 percent effective.
At the same time, Moderna has said that if her vaccine proves to be at least 70 percent effective, then she will apply for approval for its emergency use. The company is aiming to produce 20 million doses of its vaccine by the end of this year.
The initial dose of Moderna vaccine to go to America
Moderna has received funding under the US government’s ‘Operation Warp Speed’ to make the vaccine and so its initial doses will go to the US. The government has run this operation for the rapid manufacture and distribution of the Corona vaccine.
11 vaccines of coronavirus are in the final stages of the trial
Speaking of other candidates, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), a third phase trial of 11 vaccines of the corona virus is currently underway.
After Moderna and Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Oxford University Vaccine are at the forefront, and its trial results may also come this year.
The first 100 million doses of this vaccine are to be delivered to India in December and hence its results are most important for India.
